Sami Tales
The happy Seamonster that helps teach children to read.
Why seamonsters? Since men and women have sailed the oceans, our storytelling tradition includes seamonsters. Legends, fairytales, and myths the world over describe these elusive creatures. To date, humans have explored less than 10% of the oceans, lakes and seas. This is a world far larger than our own. Obviously unidentified life forms exist in this hidden place, why not seamonsters? The fact that our last name is Seamons didn’t hurt either. As we created the Seamonster Family, liberty was taken in creating the abilities, lifestyle, and social interaction of the underwater community that evolved.
The Seamonster Family of Lake Kampos (Latin for seamonster) consists of Sami, his Mom and Dad, little sister Lizi, and Grandpa Seamonster. Mom, Dad, and Grandpa are the voices of wisdom and reason as Sami and Lizi grow and mature. It is through them that the 8 Virtues, advanced in the SamiTales Character Development program, are taught, and reasoning is modeled.
Sami’s friends include Harvey, Bruce Bass, Gloria Goldfish, Porsha Pike, and Cannon Catfish. Their many adventures contained in the SamiTales storybooks result in situations where the 8 Virtues are demonstrated, choices are made and consequences are realized. Reasoning is taught through reflection on their experiences, both positive and negative.
The 8 Virtues contained in this character development program is time proven and culturally independent. They are not novel, difficult, or evasive, but rather straight forward and readily attainable through consistent attention and diligence.
The 8 Virtues are:
Personal peace is the reward of living the 8 Virtues.
The power to succeed is in every child. Much of a child’s success comes from his/her ability to communicate. The ability to read, comprehend, and understand are important aspects of communication development in children. We all know that reason grows from understanding, that understanding begins with education, and education advances reasoning. Reasoning is knowledge/reading and problem solving/math functioning under an established belief system/8 Virtues.
In the world economy, being able to communicate, dialogue and reason are vital in competing for opportunities and achievements. We believe that virtue training results in greater self-mastery leading to lower levels of aggression, higher social affiliation, and greater tolerance for diversity producing happier, more stress-free lives.
The SamiTales Program is based upon the premise that “Peace comes through understanding, understanding begins with education and reading is the key to education.” Reading literally breaks down the walls of ignorance that may be suffocating our youth universally through abuse, control and fear.
This program is a comprehensive series of storybooks, training programs, lesson plans, worksheets and assessments that assist in teaching Reading, Math and Character Development to the children of the world. The SamiTales Program provides an unwavering foundation for children and young people to enable them to adapt, adjust, and flourish in this ever-changing, increasingly complex and demanding world.
Someone will teach the children, someone will train them. Example is a powerful teacher. They will follow someone’s example. It may be our example for a while, but if our actions don’t align with our words they will lose respect and trust in us and find someone else to follow. More important than what is told to these hungry young minds is how we, the teachers, live. We can’t delegate this; it is our responsibility.
